Thought
Amphitheatres of the ancient world were our equivalents today of social networking and mass communication. The big advantage with the amphitheatres was that those who participated in speeches and the accompanying heckling (or voting) were geographically in context deciding local issues easily and building solid social capital. Communication in this way developed freedom of thought and expression spawning democracy in its early forms and civilised individuals.
Perhaps the world needs to again build and use amphitheatres and get everyone involved...
